Mobile Calibration Overview
In today’s world of quickly evolving CATV services there is
no point using test equipment unless you can be absolutely confident
that its results are true and accurate. Your test equipment requires
calibration at least annually to ensure its accuracy, and depending
on your situation, to keep in the good graces of various regulatory
agencies. An inaccurate reading is worse than no reading at all. Your
technicians could be balancing your cable plant and headends at incorrect
levels, creating more issues than they resolve.
Your systems will receive expert service with almost zero downtime. ComSonics’ on-site
specialists work closely with your employees to ensure a smooth and
trouble-free experience. ComSonics has the range and quality of equipment
and the technical expertise to compare performance and tolerances against
national standards. A quality calibration service which includes
all testing necessary to certify that the instrument is measuring to
specification. This insures that measurement repeatability and uncertainty
are optimized, assuring high quality and performance. If a piece
of equipment fails the verification process, it is typically in need
of repair services beyond the scope of the on-site calibration labs,
and can be sent to one of ComSonics’ nationwide repair facilities.

A word of caution: If
you encounter test equipment that “requires no calibration” or is touted as “self-calibrating”,
proceed with care. Manufacturers can incorporate circuitry in
test equipment that automatically initiates calibration routines at
equipment startup. However, these routines are based on internal
reference points that, by laws of nature, will incur drift over time
and ultimately yield inaccurate calibration. External verification
by a standard traceable to a universally accepted and proven measure
is necessary to ensure that the effect of nature’s constant thrust
toward entropy does not jeopardize your testing integrity.
